Guy Roof has been named vice president, sales, of Con-Equip Inc., Houston, TX, a division of Consolidated Equipment Companies (CEC).

He has held the position since January.

As vice president, Roof oversees the whole sales department and is in charge of the day-to-day operations of sales and rentals for the Houston Con-Equip location.

Roof started his career in 1984 working for E. F. Craven Co., in North Carolina, a Fiat Allis dealer. The company is now a Case dealer.

“I ran the gamut with them while I was in college,” Roof said. He started out in shipping and receiving and worked his way up to full-line salesman by 1990, when he moved on to Mitchell Distributing Co., a Komatsu and Ingersoll-Rand dealer in the Carolinas.

With Mitchell, Roof worked as a territory manager for six years.

He said that Mitchell, being such an excellent company, “gave me the experience to hold the position that I have today.”

In 1996, he decided to go into business for himself and opened up a Con-Equip of the Carolinas. He did this, he said, through his affiliation with the people in Houston’s Con-Equip.

By January, he moved to the Houston branch, temporarily inactivating his business in the Carolinas.

The need for his present position was basically because of the expansion of Con-Equip during the last year.

“The expansion that Con-Equip has experienced in the past eight months through acquisitions in Louisiana, the Carolinas and Texas, afforded me the opportunity to come here and fill the position that I have today with Con-Equip,” he said.

The new position is going well, he added. “Business is phenomenal, in spite of the rising interest rates,” Roof noted.

As far as future goals for his position and with the company, Roof said that so far, he has none in particular.

“Everything we have in place is going very well. We have a loyal customer base that keeps us busy. We would like to take on some new product lines, when the opportunity presents itself,” he said.

Even though Con-Equip Inc., is now held by CEC, it still “maintains the integrity of a family business, which allows us to adapt quickly to our customers’ needs,” Roof said. “This is first and foremost what people look for when they want to do business.”
